Sovereign Intelligence Systems
Lucas Meyer · Published 2026‑06‑21
An architecture paper describing a sovereign, self-hosted personal AI system: a hub-and-spoke design in which a single orchestrating agent composes small, single-purpose local services, with a deep look at the agent itself — its provider-agnostic loop, the object model that separates what the system ships from what an agent accrues, and the mechanisms by which agents persist, act autonomously, and collaborate.
A research vision arguing that what makes a creature feel alive is the presence of innate stakes — internal states it did not choose, cannot disable, and must work to keep within viable ranges — and that the next generation of artificial agents may benefit from architectures designed to keep learning after they are deployed, rather than only during pretraining.
A two-product ecosystem: a suite of standalone applications and a Linux-based desktop distribution, built around local-first data, sovereign storage, and minimal cloud dependency.
